Naming what already exists

Latinsphere.org is an editorial and reference project dedicated to mapping the civilizational space of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world. It exists because the concept exists — even if, until now, it hasn't had a name.

The Anglosphere — the geopolitical and cultural network of English-speaking nations — has been studied, named, and debated for decades. It has books, think tanks, and foreign policy frameworks built around it. The equivalent space for Spanish and Portuguese-speaking nations has not received the same treatment, despite encompassing more than 30 nations, nearly 900 million speakers, and over $7 trillion in combined economic output.

This project aims to change that by giving the concept a name, a framework, and a home on the internet.

What this is

Latinsphere.org is an editorial project. It is a reference point for understanding the deep connections — linguistic, cultural, economic, and political — between the nations of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world. It draws on research from institutions like the Instituto Cervantes, ECLAC, and the IMF, as well as scholarship on the Anglosphere concept from thinkers like James C. Bennett.

What this is not

This is not a proposal for a new political institution, trade bloc, or supranational government. The Latinsphere is a descriptive framework, not a prescriptive one. It names a reality that already exists. It does not advocate for creating new obligations between nations.
